Refugio County Livestock Show auction sees increase

An indoor location and buyers' corral weren't the only points that set the March 23 Refugio County Livestock Show (http://refugio.agrilife.org/files/2012/02/2013-Rulebook.pdf auction apart from previous years.
Added earnings were yet another boost.
This year's auction brought in about $75,000 more than in 2012, said Brenda Mundine, treasurer with the Youth Livestock Auction Association. Factoring in add-ons, the total Wednesday sat at $386,000.
"It was a good year," Mundine said, noting that moving the event inside the air-conditioned Padilla Hall made a difference. "We were real pleased."
Auction data shows Peyton Levien's grand champion steer sold for $12,550 to Champion Technologies, Joyce Borden, Elite Compression Services, Midcoast Lease Service, Quinn Pump & Supply, Repcon, Terry Metting, Kyle Metting, New Star, Barbara Hagel, Paul and Toni Tungate, Bubba Leita Farms, Jerry Wayne and Rhonda Leita, Jason Svetlic, James and Gwen Janik and Danny May.
Meanwhile, Abbey Hicks' reserve champion steer sold for $12,499 to Industrial Site Services.
Kodye Neel's grand champion lamb brought in $5,000 from Causey Ranch, while BC Oilfield and Smith Services purchased Dalton Klare's reserve champion lamb for $4,450.
Jerry Brondstad Consulting and Show Pig Mafia purchased Madalynn Nixon's grand champion hog for $7,000, while Julianna Castellano's reserve champion hog went for $6,999 to BC Oilfield, Country Slaughter, J&J Fireworks, Joe Braman, LB Contracting and Midcoast Lease Service.
Lacie Beall's grand champion goat went to Choctaw Lease Service for $7,000. Meanwhile, Demi Rosas' reserve champion goat sold for $6,999 to 2-D Services, Dewey Bellows Operating, Gary and Deborah Bellows, Hard Core Equipment, Merrill Lease Service, Oak Lease Service and Southern Speciality.
Kyra Klare's grand champion turkey went for $3,000 to the Hallettsville Livestock Commission; Anita Barber; Junior and Veronica Rocha; HEB; Basic Energy Services; Discount Auto; Mary Kathryn O'Brien; Perker Dixon; John and Boogie Barber; Dr. and Mrs. J. T. Rainey; Mike and Joni Barber; LB Contracting; Bo and Ruthie Henderson; Ronnie and Lisa Williams; Tuttle's Grocery and Market; Mick O'Brien; Morgan and Beau O'Brien; Charro Operating; Johnny and Ditty Gold; Buck Kelley; Nona Keyes; Bubba and Cindy Wiginton; Wiginton Grandchildren; Richard, Kellie and Jodell Beall; Barber Ranches; Dorothye Naylor; South Texas Cementers; Wilkinson Chevrolet; Bobby and Debra Bolcik; Leander and Carolin Niemann; Henry's Mexican Food; Ronnie and Carolyn Toups Adrian and Robert and Lynette Nixon.
The reserve champion turkey, which also belonged to Kyra, sold for $2,999 to Gary and Deborah Bellows.
Logan Myers' grand champion pen of broilers sold for $3,500 to Allison Ranch, while Reagan Ruddock's reserve champion pen of broilers went to Joe and Dee Braman for $3,499.
Morgan Simmons' grand champion pen of rabbits went to Mepco for $4,500, while Cecilia Bauer's reserve champion pen of rabbits sold for $4,499 to Ag Med Supply, Beeville Livestock Commission, Bellows Contract Gauging, Betty Bauer, Deb Bauer and Jeb and Jimmy Bauer Families.
Mundine called the auction a success, but said it didn't happen by chance. Many people did their part.
"We are so appreciative to those who helped and contributed," she said. "There were many hands involved in getting it together."
