Advocate wins 5 more state awards, bringing contest total to 26

The Victoria earned five more awards Sunday in a state journalism contest, bringing its total to 26..

The Advocate's top awards Sunday came for its digital work: second place in the category of best online newspaper and second for a star online package by Melissa Crowe and Sonny Long. The awards were announced as part of the Texas Associated Press Managing Editors' annual conference in San Antonio.

The Advocate also received an honorable mention in team effort; third place in star breaking news for Crowe and Long; and third place, specialty reporting, Dianna Wray.

On Saturday, the Advocate received 21 awards in the state contest. The Advocate competed against newspapers across Texas ranging in circulation size from 30,000 to 125,000.
