Thumbs-up to the Victoria Advocate for printing the story on the Yorktown High School principal not being certified and making the community aware of this.

Mendy, Yorktown

Thumbs-up to the Calhoun Air Center for improving our airport and for the many awards they have received. Your help and knowledge of showing young women and ladies about aviation for the area is a huge plus for Calhoun County residents. We applaud you and your staff for winning. You make Calhoun County proud. Hats off to Dianna and Al Stanger.

Russell, Port Lavaca

Thumbs-down to Marvin Brunner and cat haters. This man may have the right to trap animals and take them to the animal shelters, but he does not have the right to trap them and take them miles away from their homes close to a fast highway and abandon these domesticated pets to be starved or run over. Cats, unlike dogs, can climb fences a lot easier and sometimes do get out but do not destroy property any worse than a dog. Have you heard of a cat attacking and killing anyone in Victoria lately? I think there have been more cases this past year with large dogs attacking and even killing humans. Cats sometimes scratch you if they are threatened but usually run away. Cats are good for killing rodents and no threat if neutered or spayed with shots, and dogs defecate and urinate as well. I am a dog and a cat owner.

Thumbs-down on the people who park their mobile homes, trailers, large trucks and boats in front of their homes. If they can afford these toys, they need to put them in a rental storage place and not the streets. It is a shame that Victoria does not have an ordinance against these violations.

Linda, Victoria

Thumbs-up to Cuban-American author Cristina Garcia for taking part in the University of Houston-Victoria's American Book Review series. Thank you for bringing your humor and talent to Victoria.

Thumbs-up to Hutch and Kathleen Pine for rescuing two abandoned puppies.

Thumbs-down to the group of Mylar balloons that interfered with the power in Victoria.
