Volunteers needed for Faith Family's Servolution Week

Faith Family Church is kicking off Servolution Week on Monday, aiming to complete 13 projects that will serve residents in Victoria.

This is the second year for Servolution, which generated more than 10,000 volunteer hours to complete the projects last year.

"Servolution is a benefit to the community because it gets our citizens out there," Servolution's organizer, Mark Longoria, said. "People are meeting and doing acts of kindness and showing the community that people do care. We want to make our community safe and caring and loving."

Volunteers and in-kind and financial donations are needed, Longoria said. Here's a look at some of the projects of Servolution:•  Elementary mentoring

Project: Read to elementary children or visit for lunch

Need: 30 volunteers

Requirement: 18 years old, background check•  Habitat for Humanity

Project: Assist in building a house for an area needy family

Need: 15 volunteers, Saturday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

Requirement: Bring gloves, tools, comfortable clothing and shoes.•  Food Bank of the Golden Crescent

Project: Packing and sorting food at the food bank

Need: 20 volunteers, Monday to Friday 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Requirement: Wear comfortable clothes and shoes; bring gloves.•  Victoria College outreach

Project: Serve donuts, coffee

Need: 20 volunteers

Requirement: Need some materials donated•  Project Elevation

Project: Repair interior of house, cabinets, sheet rock

Need: 50 volunteers, housing materials

Requirement: Carpentry, drywall, tile work, painting, handyman work and tools•  Christ's Kitchen

Project: Help serve food to needy families

Need: 20 volunteers

Requirement: none•  Food distribution

Project: Distribute food to needy families in Bloomington

Need: 20 volunteers

Requirement: Some lifting•  Prison ministry care packages

Project: Collect deodorant for Stevenson Unit prisoners

Need: 1,300 sticks of deodorant

Requirement: None•  Laundromat outreach

Project: Teams of three go to different laundromats and help fold clothes, pray for people

Need: 20 volunteers

Requirement: Bring quarters, detergent•  Restoration House

Project: Paint exterior of house and minor interior repairs

Need: 20 volunteers

Requirement: Paint brushes, rollers, frames and 1- and 5-gallon buckets.•  Nursing home visits

Project: Visit area nursing home residents and pray for them

Need: 25 volunteers

Requirement: none•  Batting 1,000 - Movie based on Celebrate Recovery

Project: Buy 1 ticket for $8.25 and get one free for first 1,000 tickets.

Need: 1,000 tickets sold

Requirement: none•  Barefoot Sunday

Project: Collect new or slightly used shoes for African and Crossroads children

Need: 20 volunteers, 5,000 shoes, $2,000 for shipping
