Editor, the Advocate:
As a health care provider caring for more than 178 kidney failure patients relying on life-saving dialysis care, I want to thank Congressman Blake Farenthold for his recent visit to DaVita Dialysis Center of Victoria. He spoke with staff, patients and family members to learn more about kidney care in our community.
In our facility, 84 percent of our patients rely on Medicare for dialysis treatments three times weekly as well as other services including labs, nursing care, medications and transportation. Medicare doesn't currently cover the full cost of these treatments and services, and I'm concerned that additional cuts recently approved by Congress, which will further slash dialysis reimbursements, could negatively impact my patients.
I encourage readers to contact Rep. Farenthold to express support for adequate payments for dialysis so my patients and hundreds of thousands of others can continue receiving the quality, life-saving dialysis care they need.
