Joshua Woods loved working on his old, beaten up Ford truck - that's the Joshua who Wilma Thomas will always remember.

Woods, 69, of Edna, died Tuesday after an early morning head-on collision on Farm-to-Market Road 822 about 5 miles north of Edna, and his family will never be the same, said Thomas, Woods' cousin.

"He was like a brother to me, and I was like a sister to him," said Thomas.

Woods was a passenger in a 2003 Ford Windstar driven by his wife, Glenda Woods, 58.

About 7 a.m., Woods' vehicle was northbound on the FM 822 when a southbound 2010 F-150 driven by Cody Fojtik, 36, crossed the median and struck their vehicle, said Department of Public Safety Trooper spokesman Gerald Bryant.

Fojtik and his 3-year-old son, Jaxson Fojtik, were taken to area clinics with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Joshua Woods was flown to Christus Spohn in Corpus Christi, where he died from his injuries. His wife is in DeTar Navarro in fair condition.

The wreck has been a shock for Thomas.

Woods was riding along with his wife, who he typically takes to work, she said.

He planned to pick up his grandkids and spend the day with them, after dropping her off, Thomas said.

"He's definitely going to be missed," Thomas said. "He would give anyone the shirt off his back if he could."

The wreck is under investigation, Bryant said.
