Despite Congress passing legislation to fix the Federal Aviation Administration's sequestration issues, the Victoria Regional Airport is not out of the dark just yet.
Airport manager Jason Milewski said in a statement Friday the legislation does not explicitly fix the air traffic control contract tower program.
The FAA has not announced - and is not required to announce - whether it will continue funding the 149 contract towers, including the one at Victoria Regional Airport, slated to close June 15.
The Department of Transportation Secretary now has the discretion to set aside funding to keep the contract towers open. Milewski said he hopes the DOT sees the value in keeping the towers open.
