Ashley Winegeart nailed a walkoff single to score Casey Sax in Game 1 and UHV split its Saturday doubleheader with LSU-Alexandria by winning Game 1 4-1 and dropping Game 2 7-6 despite a late come back bid.
The Jaguars (24-20) complete the regular season on Sunday with a doubleheader at home against Texas College. First game is at 1 p.m.
In the first game, LSU-Alexandria was able to scratch back against Dawn Villegas in the sixth and seventh inning to tie the game at 3-3 before the Jaguars ended it in the bottom of the seventh with one out.
Brittany Arredondo was 3 for 4 at the plate with an RBI and a run, and Marley Moehrig added two hits and two more RBIs. Eight of UHV's nine batters had hits and all nine reached base at some point in Game 1 on Saturday, with Jena West the only one to not get a hit.
Villegas struck out seven and walked seven to earn the win in Game 1.
In the second game, LSU-Alexandria got to pitcher Megan Carter early, touching her up for five runs (four earned) in two innings of work. She struck out two, but allowed seven hits in that timeframe.
Alex Holland relieved her in the third, and allowed just two hits and two runs the rest of the way, but those runs would prove to be decisive for LSU-A.
UHV tried to mount a rally in the fourth and fifth, getting four runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth. Marley Moehrig had another two hits and two more RBIs, and also scored twice.
At the bottom of the lineup, Krissa Powell batted in a run and was 2 for 3 at the plate. Krtistina Droz was also 2 for 3 and batted in two runs. The Jaguars had nine hits on the day.
The defense committed two errors in the second game.
