Eight immigrants suspected to be in the United States illegally were apprehended after fleeing from a traffic stop Thursday.

A black Ford F-150 traveling north on U.S. Highway 59 near state Highway 185 was pulled over for a seat belt violation at 8:07 a.m., said Sgt. Travis Gundelach with the Victoria County Sheriff's Office.

When the vehicle stopped on the side of the road, passengers fled into a pasture, said Gundelach.

Three passengers remained in the vehicle and told deputies that a woman passenger who fled also had a 4-year-old child with her.

Deputies searched the area and were able to find a group of the passengers at a ranch near U.S. Highway 59 and state Highway 185, Gundelach said.

No injuries were reported, and all eight passengers were detained by the U.S. Border Patrol.
