Each and every day in the Victoria ISD, we work exceptionally hard to achieve the mission of our school district - "Achieving Excellence for All." School partnerships are an essential component to our success, and we are extremely appreciative to partners like the VISD Education Foundation and their service as a champion for education.

The VISD Education Foundation supports our students and teachers through technology purchases, student scholarships, student and teacher recognitions and innovative teaching grants. The Grants for Great Ideas program is designed to encourage teachers to develop creative and innovative approaches to teaching and learning. This year, the VISD Education Foundation has approved an increase in the available dollars to be awarded through these grants. Previously, the VISD Education Foundation allotted $15,000 per funding cycle for a total of $30,000 per year. This year, the Grants for Great Ideas program has increased to $20,000 per cycle or $40,000 per year. Thanks to the generosity of the Victoria business community and VISD employee contributions, the VISD Education Foundation has also been able to create a new $5,000 grant funding category in addition to the existing grant categories of $1,000 and $2,500.

On Aug. 16 at the Victoria ISD Convocation Back to School Celebration, six Grants for Great Ideas will be awarded. We are pleased to announce that the soon-to-be-awarded grants will involve support to 24 campuses connecting with eight community partnerships that include 69 teachers, 131 parents and 2,141 students in grades second through 12th.

The Grants for Great Ideas program was launched in 2009, and since its inception, more than $120,000 has been awarded to 70-plus projects impacting approximately 20,000 students. The VISD Education Foundation believes that great schools are everyone's business. If you are interested in supporting the VISD Education Foundation or would like additional information about how you can support our schools and our community, please contact Brittany Hollas at 361-788-9271 or visit the VISD website at

On behalf of our board of trustees and the entire Victoria community, we would like to thank our VISD Education Foundation for all that it does to make our school district such a special place to be. Aldus Huxley once stated: "The most valuable of all education is the ability to make yourself do the thing you have to do when it has to be done." The VISD Education Foundation's focus on "Every Child, Every Classroom, Every Day" clearly indicates its commitment to provide wonderful opportunities and endless possibilities to all our students and staff. We truly appreciate their excellence.
