Sales tax is not only reason people shop online

Recently, KAVU ran a story about a local store owner who was commenting about losing business due to sales tax not being charged on Internet sales. I have shopped this store and have found that their prices are more expensive than other local stores with the same items.
Last week, I was shopping for a winch for my SUV. I called a local dealer for the item I was searching for. The price they quoted seemed a little high. I searched the Internet to check pricing. I found the same item at a store in Austin for $200 less. I purchased it over the Internet and paid sales tax. I would rather buy locally, but $200 is too big of a difference. Lack of sales tax on some Internet purchases is not the always the reason for lost business. Local merchants should check their pricing and keep up with the competition.
