Heat advisory in effect Wednesday

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory until 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Afternoon high temperatures are expected to be between 98 and 106 across South Texas with heat index values of 108 to 115.

The NWS recommends drinking plenty of fluids, staying of the sun, remaining in an air-conditioned room if possible and checking on relatives and neighbors, especially the elderly.

The official forecast for Victoria calls for sunny and hot, with a high near 101. Heat index values as high as 112. South wind 6 to 11 mph increasing to 13 to 18 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph.

Mostly clear Wednesday night with a low around 77. Breezy, with a south southeast wind 20 to 25 mph decreasing to 6 to 11 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 34 mph.
