Calhoun County School District met accountability standards in all four performance areas.

Billy Wiggins, the school district's superintendent, attributed the success to high quality teaching and an effective administration.

"We're pleased but not satisfied," Wiggins said. "We far outscored what we needed to meet expectations, but we would like to do better."

Port O'Connor Elementary School earned distinction for academic achievement in reading/English language arts, as did Harrison/Jefferson/Madison Complex in Port Lavaca. HJM was also recognized for academic achievement in mathematics. Distinctions for academic achievement in mathematics and top 25 percent student progress were awarded to Calhoun High School.

"I want to thank all the teachers for the hard work and time they put in with students," Wiggins said. "We still have lots of work to do - the teachers and the administration together."
