The National Education Association Foundation named Loryn Windwehen - a graduate of Victoria Memorial High School and Texas A&M University and daughter of Jackie Windwehen, a current resident of Victoria - as a 2013 Pearson Foundation Global Learning Fellow.

With this honor, Windwehen joins a unique class of 36 award-winning public school educators who will spend a year building their global competency skills, or the capacity and disposition to understand and act on issues of global significance.

Windwehen is currently a seventh-grade science teacher at Harris Middle School in San Antonio.

Windwehen was named the 2012 Overall Teacher of the Year for North East ISD; named the 2012 Region 20 Secondary Teacher of the Year in Texas; received the San Antonio TV station 2012 KENS 5 ExCel Award for Excellence in Education, known as the "Golden Apple Award" for teachers; and was a 2012 state finalist in the H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards under the Rising Star category.

"It is a surreal honor to have the privilege to take such a journey as an educator, and I am humbled by this experience," said Windwehen. "It is my responsibility to empower my students to investigate this diverse Earth with purpose, the cultures within it and the resources it provides."
