William R. Blanchard, CEO of the DeTar Healthcare System, recently received the Excellence in Leadership Award by Community Health Systems, according to a news release.
"I work with a dynamic group of people that I proudly call my DeTar family," Blanchard said in a news release. "Together, we are seen as leaders in delivering quality, compassionate health care to the residents of our community."
Blanchard has more than 30 years of experience in hospital administration and has served as DeTar's chief executive officer for 23 years.
Under his leadership, DeTar has expanded to two campuses, added advanced technology such as robotic-assisted surgery, expanded into behavioral health services and achieved recognition as a Primary Stroke Center, an accredited Chest Pain Center and a heart attack receiving center.
In 2013, Blanchard's team opened three new outreach programs, which include intensive outpatient psychiatric care for adults as well as prenatal care and chronic disease management programs in Victoria and the surrounding counties.
Blanchard also serves in a leadership capacity for numerous community, church and cultural organizations.
Blanchard said his successful leadership is due to the commitment he shares with the hospitals' team of physicians, employees, volunteers and board members.
