Renovation of the sanctuary at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Ander is underway. Work began after the Aug. 18 worship service and will include several components.

Phase one of the sanctuary renovation project was approved at a July 7 congregational meeting. The congregation will hold worship services in its parish hall while the work is being completed in the sanctuary.

The renovation approved by the congregation includes a new air conditioning system, textured and painted drywall for the interior walls with a wooden wainscoting, new acoustical ceiling tiles in a new grid and accented by wooden beams, the removal of the current windows and metal shutters and replacement with energy-efficient windows with obscure glass and new lighting and additional electrical outlets.

The wood for the wainscoting is reclaimed wood from the former Adickes Store in Ander.

Other project components include the removal and off-site storage of the organ pipes and protecting other components of the organ during the work.

Project funding will come from designated gifts from members, associate members and friends of the congregation. A Commitment Sunday for the project has been scheduled for Sept. 22.

Initial partial funding for the project will come from a congregational loan through the Mission Investment Fund of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

St. Peter's sanctuary was constructed in 1966 and replaced a former church building constructed in 1910. The sanctuary was dedicated Nov. 6, 1966. St. Peter's was founded in 1875.

Worship is Sundays at 9 a.m. St. Peter's is located at 1545 E. Farm-to-Market Road 1961 in Ander.
