Goliad officials are searching for a new city attorney now that their legal adviser resigned.

City Attorney Terry Baiamonte's last day with the city of Goliad is Jan. 31, according to her resignation letter.

In Baiamonte's letter, she says "professional and personal goals" are taking her "in another direction."

Multiple attempts to reach her for comment at her home, office and through email were unsuccessful.

Baiamonte has been with the city since 2006.

City Administrator Larry Zermeno said the city started an informal search and plans to post a notice through the Texas Municipal Development League website.

"I'm speculating," Zermeno said. "She's the city attorney for Rockport; I believe they're moving."

Her husband, Rob Baiamonte, is the county attorney for Goliad County.

"This came completely from her," Zermeno said.

Baiamonte most recently was in the news as a part of an eight-month investigation by the Advocate into the city's handling of its Goliad Municipal Development District. The economic development program is under investigation by the Texas Rangers for its lending practices.
