A 17-year-old Yorktown High School senior was in stable condition at University Hospital in San Antonio on Friday after a Wednesday night traffic crash.
Danielle Parella was injured in the two-vehicle wreck about 9 p.m. on state Highway 72 at Farm-to-Market Road 237, according to a DeWitt County Sheriff's Office report.
She was taken by ambulance to Citizens Medical Center and later transferred to the San Antonio hospital, according to the report.
The driver of the second vehicle, Victoria Pena, 17, was traveling west on the highway when two dogs ran out in front of her car, and she slowed down, striking one of the dogs, according to the sheriff's office report.
Parella's 1996 Honda, also traveling west, was unable to stop safely behind Pena's 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe and struck it in the rear, according to the report.
Pena, also a student at Yorktown High School, was not injured.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts, and no citations were issued, according to the report.
The DeWitt County Sheriff's Office investigated the crash.
