A 45-year-old San Benito man died Tuesday after an explosion at a GreenHunter Resources oil-field site in Moulton.

Jose Torres was pronounced dead at the scene, 526 S. Lavaca St., at 11:17 a.m. by Lavaca County Justice of the Peace Carol Renner.

Moulton Police Chief Mark Pritchard said Torres was inside a tanker-trailer holding down a piece of metal for a welder outside the trailer.

"Apparently, something inside the tanker reacted with the heat, causing an explosion," Pritchard said.

Torres was thrown about 75 feet from the trailer, the police chief said.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the accident, said Diana Petterson, spokeswoman for the U.S. Department of Labor.

A search of OSHA records revealed no previous accidents involving GreenHunter Resources.
