I love layering apparel during winter in Texas. One, because we never get to layer and two, we only have a couple of months of actual winter weather.

I love layers, as they are a must for winter apparel - one day it's hot, and the next you are freezing enough to where even during Christmas shopping at an outdoor mall, you sneak into each store along the way for warmth.

Here is my suggestion on how to purchase several layering pieces this winter to keep you snug:

Decorate your decolletage with scintillating jewels to bring the sweater back to femininity. Bib necklaces at Anthropologie and J.Crew are the exact feel and look I'm going for this winter to top off any sweater.

Add in a basic tank with fringe or lace at the bottom - that way when you pair it with your sweater, the fringe or lace will peek out at the bottom, adding a little something to your getup.

The bulkier the sweater, the tighter the pants should be. You won't look top heavy if you opt for a lengthy and slim sweater, but the fabric should still look bulky and feel bulky (whether it's wool or cotton) to keep you warm.

Most of all, focus on the shoes for your winter looks. One or two pairs of really good boots and or booties will get you through our cold season. Payless has signed with different designers, and the shoes from designers Isabel Toledo and Christian Siriano are absolutely fabulous. All of the shoes are reasonably priced.

Change up your dressing routine by adding layers - add on your amazing boots, and you've got the look this winter.
