The mastermind behind "Drank In My Cup," is keeping his roots as local as possible, performing just south of his hometown, Houston. He hits Two Step in Victoria on Friday.
Rapper and singer Kirko Bangz is live in concert for the "Turnt Up" event, hosted by DJ Michael 5000 Watts.
Bangz first hit the scene in 2009 with his first mixtape, "Procrastination Kills." Since then, he's grown in popularity with "Drank In My Cup," which peaked at No. 28 on the Top Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Currently, he's working on his next album, "Bigger Than Me."
Bangz, whose real name is Kirk Jerel Randle, said he expects a crowd full of love Friday.
"Anytime you're in Texas or your hometown, there's always a lot of love," he said. "I still live in Houston. I'm not ever going to leave."
DJ Michael 5000 Watts said he is a huge fan of Bangz's work and is excited to work with Two Step CEO and president Bryant Price.
"I know the city of Victoria, and I'm here to give you what you're asking for," DJ Michael 5000 Watts said.
Price transformed Two Step a few years ago, trying to make it Victoria's prime spot for dance and latest hits music.
Earlier this month, Price helped bring Z-Ro, another rapper, to Victoria.
His goal is to continue bringing growing names in the industry to get people in the Victoria area fired up about nightlife.
"We're really trying to bring hip-hop into the Victoria market," he said. "We've had a lot of large-name talent."
Bangz, though becoming more popular, still feels he's growing.
That's what his "Bigger Than Me" album - which is expected to drop in 2014 - is all about.
"I've had success so far, but I'm still finding my way," he said. "I'm learning as I go."
