Official identifies 18-year-old killed in Calhoun County crash

An 18-year-old Port Lavaca man died Thursday afternoon after a Ford F-250 pickup crashed into his vehicle on U.S. Highway 87.

John Patrick Torres Jr. was pronounced dead by Calhoun County Justice of the Peace Precinct 5 Nancy Pomykal. The crash occurred about 4:30 p.m.

Three passengers in Torres' vehicle, a 2007 Mazda M3i, were transported to hospitals. Two are listed in critical condition, said Trooper Gerald Bryant of the Department of Public Safety.

No one in the Ford pickup was reported injured.

The accident, which occurred near the intersection of U.S. 87 and Farm-to-Market Road 2433 in Calhoun County, is under investigation. The intersection is about 5 miles from Port Lavaca.
