An investigation into the death of a man found burned in the backseat of a Honda early Wednesday morning is continuing, said Kelly Kistner, assistant state fire marshal for the Texas Department of Insurance.

All of the investigative work at the scene and inside the vehicle was completed Thursday, Kistner said.

The Honda caught fire just before 5 a.m. in a field near the intersection of Farm-to-Market Road 1090 and School Road in Port Lavaca.

The body, which was burned beyond recognition, was sent to the Travis County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.

Kistner said identification of the body is expected after the holidays.
