Hello, Victoria. Your Victoria Art League is really popping this month.

We have two artists coming in to teach workshops this month. Angie Banta Brown, of New Braunfels, will teach a workshop on a variety of mediums (watercolor and pastels). This workshop will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 11-13. Cost is $185.

Brown is a very popular instructor who can teach a lot in a short amount of time. Her workshop last year was enjoyed by many novice and experienced painters.

Feb. 28-March 2 Mark Keathley will hold a three-day workshop on painting in oils. Keathley is a nationally recognized artist who has a way of demonstrating and teaching that inspires and pulls out the best in his students.

We are so fortunate to have both of these artists share with us. Call 361-575-2175 if you have questions about either of these great workshops.

"Paint the Town" is a great success thanks to the untiring efforts of Eunice Collins. We have gatherings to socialize and paint two to four times a week.

Ronnie Chambers is the instructor and does a great job of leading and encouraging everyone.

For more information, go on Facebook to Painting the Town-Victoria or contact Collins at 361-576-4043.

All of this is available and classes too.

Sonny Timme meets from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday and 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday in the classroom to teach adult classes in various painting mediums. If you have a desire to learn how to become an artist from the ground up, you need to contact him at 361-578-8722.

He will get you started and show you the basics you will need to know.

Jim Feig is teaching a beginners digital photograph class on Tuesday nights which will end in February.

He plans to start a new beginning digital photography class Tuesday, Feb. 26 and an advanced class Thursday, Feb. 28. Call Feig at 361-576-0578 for more information.

I am in the process of teaching a beginners pottery class Tuesdays and an advanced class Thursdays. Both of these classes will end in March. Call me if you are interested in taking a class in the future. I will then contact you when I offer another class. Call me at 361-575-3216 and leave your information.

Do you know any children who would like to do art? Michele Evans is continuing her classes at 4 p.m., Monday-Thursdays with Wednesday dedicated to working with clay. Contact Evans at 361-572-8073.

Something is going on all the time at the Art League. Come visit us and let us show you around. You will see why we are proud of our organization and our historical building.

Once again, the Victoria Art League has lost an important member, Harold Nichols. Nichols was the original owner of our building and spent many years of his life renovating and restoring it. He sold it to the Art League in 1998. He wanted to encourage the visual arts in Victoria and was an integral part of making that happen.

We hope to continue his dream. He was a unique and multitalented artist who worked in a wide variety of mediums.

We will truly miss him as he lived next door to us and would just walk through the gate to come over to our functions.

Victoria lost a true Renaissance man.

Bill Bauer is president of the Victoria Art League.
