West takes second in boys and girls competition

On Saturday morning, wrestlers from five schools converged on Victoria's District Events Center for the District 15-4A Wrestling Championships.

Beeville took home first place in the boys' competition, compiling a total of 149 points. Victoria West came in second, finishing 32.5 points behind the Trojans. Victoria East finished in fifth place with 49 points.

San Antonio Brooks Academy won the girls district title with a total of 89 points. Victoria West was second with 60 points and Beeville was third with 54.

Lorraina Moses and Keirsten Reed each won their individual weight class district titles. Reed won by decision over Kenya Rivera (Brooks Academy) in the 119-pound weight class and Moses won the 148-pound weight class over Alex Salamon (Brooks).

Julian Montes (106 lbs.), John Garcia (120 lbs.), Baxter Bradicich (152 lbs.) and John Nelson (220 lbs.) all won their respective weight class's district title.

Victoria East's James Cavazos won 132 lbs. district title by forfeit-injury over Victoria West's Stephen Sparks. The Titans' Joshua Morales won the 138 lbs. weight class.

All but two of the boys matches ended in a pin.

Wrestlers will now move on to the regional round next Friday and Saturday at the Delco Center in Austin.
