The men's soccer signing class for UHV this year has a decidedly international flair.

Along with signings for men's and women's golf, and women's soccer, UHV announced it had signed five players to men's soccer scholarships on Wednesday from the British Isles.

The signees are forward Samuel James from Worchester, England, who played for Foregate FC; midfielder and forward Conor Burns from Belfast, Northern Ireland, who played for the 18U Cliftonville FC; defender Sam Fielding from Blackpool, England, who played for Poulton Town FC; Forward Ben Taylor from West Bridgeford, England, who played for the 18U Nottinghamshire County team; and Jack Pluckwell from Beck Row, England, who played for the Conference Youth Alliance's Luton Town FC.

The signing class for women's soccer is much more local, featuring five signees from Texas. The class is led by Fort Bend Austin's Caroline Carvajal, a midfielder by trade who played club soccer with 95 Black SCL.

The Sugar Land native is ranked 58th nationally, and has been an Olympic development player each of the last two years.

Joining her are Pearland's Ashley Romeo, Mesquite's Haley Hicks, El Paso native Ally Romero and Grand Prairie's Mareese Johnson.

Johnson and Romero are both transfers from West Texas College, which won regional championships the last two seasons.

In addition, the Jaguars signed four golfers, making significant additions from the Corpus Christi area to the men's team.

Rudy Trevino and Jake Gutierrez, both from Corpus Christi Ray, are joined by Colleyville Heritage's Drew O'Daniel.

Heather Shake is the lone women's golf signee. The Pearland Dawson senior is a two-time defending District 24-4A champion. She had a 78.5 scoring average and won six of 11 events during the summer in the Houston Golf Association Junior Tour.
