Victoria is joining nationwide rallies to bring awareness and understanding over one of today's more controversial issues - gun control under the Second Amendment.

Led by Victoria organizer Bryan Billings, the event Saturday opposes government officials who do not believe in the Second Amendment, which gives American citizens the right to bear arms.

"Right now, the federal government is overstepping their bounds, and it is the responsibility of the citizens of this nation to bring those responsible into check," Billings said. "I would like to urge people to come out and support their Second Amendment rights."

Billings added that Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson will speak this weekend. Patterson was previously a state senator who helped put the Texas concealed handgun license into law. Also speaking will be Debra Medina, a former 2010 candidate for governor in the Texas Republican Primary.

Invitations have been sent out to Congressman Blake Farenthold, and Texas Attorney General Gregg Abbott among others to attend, Billings noted.

"The Second Amendment is dear to my heart, as are all the amendments in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights," he said. "I hope this (event) is a catalyst to get people engaged politics and to start pressuring their elected officials into making better decisions."
