One person died Wednesday morning in a fiery traffic crash about four miles west of Gonzales.
The driver of the semi tractor-trailer had not been positively identified as of Wednesday afternoon, said Department of Public Safety Trooper Jason Reyes.
About 10:30 a.m., the truck, hauling a tanker trailer of crude oil, was traveling east on alternate U.S. Highway 90 near Farm-to-Market Road 2091 when it left the roadway and the driver overcorrected and the truck rolled over, said the trooper.
Both the truck and trailer caught fire.
Residents within about a mile and 1/2radius were evacuated as a precaution and the roadway was closed.
Residents returned and the highway re-opened about 2:30 p.m., said the trooper.
It is unknown if rain was a factor. The crash continues to be under investigation, Reyes said.
