Students ages 6 to 14 can now register for the spring session in Theatre Victoria's School of Performing Arts Acting Academy, 214 N. Main St.

Classes are Tuesday or Thursday afternoons for 10 weeks beginning Jan. 22. Acting will be the focus of the core curriculum. Classes are divided into two age groups - ages 6 to 8 and 9 to 14.

Students ages 6 to 8 will participate in class using their imagination and five senses to portray characters on stage. The basics of presentation - movement, projection, voice and expression - are emphasized. Students work on using action to tell a story with all the plot elements.

This class emphasizes creativity and imagination using improvisational activities and play acting. They retell familiar stories and make up their own.

Ages 9 to 14 will participate in role-playing activities through improvisation and character development.

They engage in scene work using monologues and two or three character scenes. Students learn stage terminology, audition techniques, vocal projection and movement for actors.

All classes will meet at the Leo J. Welder Center for the Performing Arts. The students will showcase their talent and skills in a small performance for an invited audience at the end of the academy, scheduled April 6.

Classes for ages 6 to 8 will be from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays and ages 9 to 14 from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursdays.

Tuition for ages 6 to 8 is $130 and ages 9 to 14 is $170. The cost of tuition includes a $25 non-refundable registration fee.
