The Murphys were chosen as one of the Top Sweethearts because of their endearing story of knowing each other in eighth-grade, going to homecoming and prom together and marrying each other after dating throughout college.
Their story was submitted by David Murphy.
“When I saw her, I took the A&M cap from her head and replaced it with my UT cap ... and followed that with a long-overdue kiss. As I remember it, sparks flew, thunder clapped, trumpets sounded and angels sang!” – David Murphy
What is the most romantic moment you've shared as a couple?
We loved the moment we left our wedding reception on that warm June morning in a horse-drawn carriage. To this day, no matter where we travel - from Mexico to New York and everywhere in between - we make time for a horse-drawn carriage ride to remind us of that special moment.
What is your favorite thing about your partner?
David about Tammy: Tammy always helps me to be more and do more than I ever could on my own. She helps me realize that I'm more of a man than I give myself credit for. She also has the cutest dang smile that melts my hard heart and makes me give in when I want to stand my ground. But don't tell her that!
Tammy for David: David completes me and he is truly my best friend. I don't want that to sound cheesy or cliche, but it's the truth. He is my safety net when I fall short, which happens often. He always knows just what I need, whether it is a listening ear, an honest opinion or a shoulder to cry on. I love him with all my heart.
When did you know you were going to spend the rest of your lives together?
We knew, after just a few weeks together, that neither of us would ever find anyone more perfect that we would rather spend our lives with.
How would your family and friends describe the two of you as a couple?
One of our friends said it best after our 20th high school reunion - "I've never seen a happier couple."
What's the wildest thing you and your partner have ever done together?
The craziest thing we ever did was move away from our hometown pursuing a dream. The second craziest thing was how that very same dream brought us back home 10 years later, although there's been plenty of other wild and crazy stuff between our first date and now that would make for some great reading!
What traditions do you have when celebrating your anniversary?
We like to get away, just the two of us, to a romantic, bed and breakfast. We've been to many, but our favorite is a secluded cabin in the woods about 12 miles outside of Fredericksburg.
