Editor, the Advocate:
This is to all the gun owners out there. Once again, we find ourselves at the mercy of our elected officials who want to blame guns for a tragedy caused by a madman. Due to the political environment, a lot of sporting goods retailers have chosen to no longer display or sell modern sporting rifles. These firearms, AR-15's and the like, are not "Assault Weapons." True assault weapons have been regulated since the '30s. Dick's Sporting Goods pulled their firearms off the shelves and have been boycotted forever by the true Second Amendment patriots. I expect this from a company like Dick's, but what I didn't expect was Academy Sports and Outdoors response. Academy is now refusing to display modern sporting rifles, but will gladly take your money for them if you ask for a rifle by name. This is highly hypocritical. Either you stand with us or against us. There is NO middle ground. Academy needs to pick a side and live with the consequences. Please contact the Academy headquarters, via email on their website's "Contact Us" page, and let them know how you feel. If you don't take a stand, don't complain about the results.
