Two women were injured Friday afternoon after their vehicle smashed into a retail store near Sam Houston Drive and Navarro Street.

The driver, Caroline Mahan, 75, of Victoria, was parking her maroon Buick Century when she pressed the accelerator instead of the break pedal, causing the vehicle to drive into the Office Depot, 5106 N. Navarro St., said Victoria Police Sgt. Herschel Buck.

Fredaline Krueger, 91, of Victoria, was also in the vehicle. Police were called to the scene at 1:45 p.m.

Buck said employees and shoppers were evacuated from the store just after the crash occurred near the store's front entrance.

The retail building was closed for the day, but city inspector Rick Madrid said store officials plan to open the business Saturday.

Office Depot manager Elias Arias could not be reached for comment.

Details about the extent of the injuries are not available, but police at the scene said neither woman suffered life-threatening injuries.

Mahan was taken to DeTar Hospital Navarro, where she was listed in stable condition and later released.

Krueger was taken to Citizens Medical Center, where she was treated and later released.

Neither Krueger nor Mahan could be reached Friday night for comment.
