Editor, the Advocate:
Much attention is now focused on who should own guns and what effect these gun owners have on our society.
Our state records (2011) show that 403,000 Texas citizens have a concealed handgun license. All of these citizens have records of good judgment, stability and no felony convictions.
During the past year, there were no concealed handgun permit holders convicted of murder using a gun.
This group of 403,000 individuals who have concealed hand gun licenses, is probably the most law-abiding in the state. I think more law-abiding than peace officers in general.
We need to point out these facts to the general public to show that it is not the gun that is dangerous, but the gun owner who is not responsible, stable of mind and qualified.
Let's expand this handgun program to help solve gun violence.
