Francois Larosa has always wanted to be a writer and filmmaker.

Now, the 52-year-old Victoria native, known locally as Frank Delarosa, is pushing full steam ahead to make it a reality.

He is preparing for Cannes Film Festival, has formed a growing production company and has a show on a Spanish television network.

And he has Victoria to thank for it.

Larosa has lived in Austin for years as an aspiring writer and filmmaker, but before that, he got his start in Victoria, as a student at Victoria High School and Victoria College.

His most recent success is the launch of his show "El Otro Lado," or "The Other Side." The show was picked up for a six-month run on Telemundo, which is under the umbrella of CBS.

The show follows three Latina paranormal investigators in high heels who visit alleged haunted sites in Texas. The show was formed under Starfield Productions, Larosa's company.

He just finished shooting the show's third episode.

"Never say never," Larosa said while talking about where life has taken him.

Larosa was in drama at Victoria High School and took theater classes at Victoria College. There, he met several influential teachers and professors who noticed his talent as a writer.

It was that acknowledgement that pushed him to continue his dream of filmmaking.

Through his Austin-based production company, which launched in 2008, he worked on several concepts for TV shows, but none ever took off.

Then came "El Otro Lado." The show has inspired Larosa to continue working in his dream jobs.

"You have to continuously market your company," he said. "I don't just sit still and say, 'Well, I've made it.'"

Aside from "El Otro Lado," Larosa has done other film work. He acts in independent films. He recently played Robert DeNiro's emergency room doctor in the 2010 film "Machete."

Still, Larosa remembers his roots.

"I don't know how far it could go, but I do know there is no ceiling," he said.
