Port Lavaca police are investigating a body found in the water along the bay front, officials said Sunday.
Early indications do not suggest foul play, but the investigation is ongoing, police chief James Martinez said. The man was identified as Diego Carrizales Martinez, 27, of Port Lavaca.
A resident found the body at 8 a.m. Sunday in water about 2 to 3 feet deep near Peninsula Park, also known as Bayfront, Detective Colin Rangnow said.
Cause of death was not immediately known, Martinez said. "There were no apparent signs of struggle or foul play when the body was pulled out of the water," he said.
Rangnow said the body had been in the water about two to four hours and could have drifted from another location. Police are trying to determine where the man was last seen alive, the detective said.
The body will be sent to Travis County Medical Examiner, where an autopsy will be conducted.
