A Victoria man was sentenced to a total of 75 years in prison Wednesday after he was found guilty of burglary.

Judge Stephen Williams found Ernest Garcia Gomez, 55, of Victoria, guilty of attempted burglary of a habitation and burglary of a building in a bench trial.

On April 16, a resident called police after he noticed Gomez trying to open doors to his and his neighbor's homes in the 1100 block of East Trinity Street. An officer then found Gomez walking down the street carrying a stolen string trimmer and leaf blower.

Gomez had four previous burglary convictions and was on parole for a 1998 burglary of a habitation charge.

Assistant district attorney Edward Wilkinson prosecuted the case. Defense attorney Chris Janak represented Gomez.
