Weimar, Shiner finish 1-2 in Lone Star Cup standings

AUSTIN - Weimar and Shiner are not only close in proximity, they're also familiar rivals.
The two schools were usually in the same district during the last school year and when they weren't, they met often in the playoffs.
Their successes were evident with the release of the final 2012-13 UIL Lone Star Cup standings.
Weimar won the Class 1A cup with 78 points, and Shiner finished second with 58 points.
The Lone Star Cup is based on a school's overall team achievement in variety of sanctioned athletic and academic championships.
Weimar won the Lone Star Cup for the second time in school history.
Weimar won state championships in softball and boys golf. The Lady Cats also placed third in girls golf, and the Wildcats were a state semifinalist in baseball.
Hallettsville, which won the baseball state championship, placed eighth in the Class 2A standings with 48 points.
The other winners were Southlake Carroll in Class 5A, Cedar Park in Class 4A, Argyle in Class 3A, and Salado in Class 2A.
The Lone Star Cup competition began in the 1997-98 school year.
