Grammy Award-winning record producer Lloyd Maines and multi-instrumentalist Terri Hendrix join musical forces Sunday in Shiner.

The two will headline the Third Annual Shiner Summer Songwriters Series on Sunday evening at Howard's, a convenience store by day and music venue by night at 1701 N. Ave. E in Shiner.

Presented by Bill Pekar and friends, the laid-back summer series is geared toward a listening crowd.

"It's unbelievable what those two people can do when they get together," Pekar said.

Maines is the father of Dixie Chicks lead singer Natalie Maines and won a Grammy for best country album for producing their 2003 album "Home."

Hendrix won a Grammy in 2002 for her work co-writing the Dixie Chicks' song "Lil' Jack Slade," as well as many other awards and honors across the state.

The lineup is one of several surprises Pekar planned for this year's concert series, which started June 2. He plans to unveil two more for the last two weeks of the series in August.

Pekar and The Rainey Brothers will open the show at 4:30 p.m., and Maines and Hendrix will take the stage around 6 p.m.

"I'm a very proud father and owner of this thing," Pekar said. "It's my baby."

Doug Moreland headlines the July 21 concert, and Frank Gilligan headlines July 28.

Admission to the series is free.
