Is there anything at Victoria College to help new students find their way around and get acclimated to campus life?

Yes, New Student Information Sessions acquaint new students with the Victoria College campus and the various resources offered to help students succeed.

All freshmen are required to participate in NSIS to be eligible to register for courses. Presentations and topics include degree offerings, student services, student rights and responsibilities, financial aid, the Pirate Portal, student resources, a campus tour and more.

"NSIS is an opportunity for our students to become familiar with the college on several levels," said Bobby Cubriel, Advising & Counseling Services director at VC.

Students attending NSIS meet other students entering VC so they may find familiar faces in their beginning semester to foster a learning community, Cubriel added.

To participate in a New Student Information Session, students must first complete a Victoria College Application for Admission, submit assessment scores (unless exempt) and submit an official high school transcript.

Once students have completed these admission requirements, NSIS registration can be completed in the Victoria College Advising & Counseling Services Office or through online registration (if eligible).

NSIS is scheduled for:•  Tuesday from 1-2:30 p.m. in the VC Student Center

•  Thursday from 9-11:30 a.m. in the VC Student Center

•  July 25 from 9-11:30 a.m. in the VC Student Center

•  July 31 from 10 a.m.-noon at the VC Calhoun County Center

The sessions are also planned for the beginning weeks of August before fall registration, Cubriel said.
