A Chevrolet Tahoe struck a bicyclist at the intersection of Lone Tree Road and Mac Arthur Street at noon Monday, sending the cyclist to the hospital.

Jerry Quinonez, 31, of Victoria, was transported to Citizens Medical Center after the SUV, driven by Amanda Carreon, 42, also of Victoria, ran over his legs, said Senior Officer William Bernard of the Victoria Police Department.

"He's hurting, but he'll be all right," Bernard said of the bicyclist.

Carreon said she was driving her son, Elton Flores, 14, to summer school.

She intended to make a right turn onto Lone Tree Road when she struck the man on the passenger side of the SUV.

"He just came out of nowhere," she said.

Both Carreon and Flores were wearing their seatbelts.

"I didn't see him," Carreon said. "I didn't mean to hurt him."

Bernard said the bicyclist was riding on the sidewalk and was not wearing a helmet.

No citation was given, and Quinonez was treated and released.
