Victoria police continue to search for several people who bailed from a vehicle Thursday morning.

About 7:18 a.m., an officer patrolling the 11000 block of U.S. Highway 59 near the Texas Department of Transportation Office attempted to stop a Chevrolet Tahoe on suspicion of equipment violations.

The vehicle fled north on the highway and then crossed the southbound lanes, said Lt. Mike Hernandez with the Victoria Police Department.

The occupants, about eight or nine people, abandoned the Tahoe and fled the area, Hernandez said.

The occupants were not found.

The officer who made the traffic stop was patrolling the area as part of Operation Border Star, an overtime program for officers to focus on border crimes such as drugs, gangs and human smuggling.
