The UHV men's soccer squad has added Sueno MLS 2010 award winner Nelson Castro to its 2013 recruiting class.
Sueno, who comes from Houston but is of Salvadorian decent, became the youngest winner of the nationally televised player search in May 2010 at the age of 14. The Sueno MLS is a program that has given thousands of talented, young players a chance to showcase their skills and impress youth development scouts.
"The coaching staff is excited to have a Nelson Castro join our UHV squad," UHV coach Adrian Rigby said. "He has an extensive resume, and we hope that he will bring his experience representing the national teams and Sueno MLS competition here to UHV."
Castro has played for the U.S. U15 national team and El Salvador's U17 team. He attended Eastwood Academy High School in Houston and currently plays for the Houston Dynamo club team.
"Nelson is a versatile player who can play as a center or outside back," Rigby said. "We'll also be looking to Nelson to bring his leadership qualities he showed with the Houston Dynamo USSF Academy."
