Honor student Sarah Alex led her graduating Faith Academy class of 21 down the center aisle of Faith Family Church, kicking off Sunday's 2013 commencement ceremony.
A crowd of about 200 family members and friends watched its favorite cap-and-gowned seniors walk to the front of the sanctuary as baby pictures and family photos of the graduates displayed on the big screen.
Seven of the 21 seniors graduated with honors.
Superintendent Chris Royael congratulated the graduates and wished them well on their journeys as they step into the world as adults.
"I want to encourage you that today is not meant to be a monument in your life where you just get a diploma and hang it on the wall ... but that today will be a milestone," he said, "where when you look back at that diploma, you remember the lessons, the things that God has instilled within your heart here."
Here's what a few of the graduates had to say about how a faith-based high school education has prepared them for the future.
"It taught me how to be a much better leader and grow closer to God. As I grow closer, it helps me find my purpose, and I believe my purpose is to be a leader in and out of school."
Jonathan Luck, 18, Victoria College
"Knowing God more makes you prepared and more secure about what you're going to do."
Kelsey Solis, 18, University of Houston-Victoria
"It's taught me to be a much better person. A Christian education gives me leadership skills that emphasize the spiritual side."
Thomas Lira, 18, Victoria College
"It's given me the strength and knowledge to keep my values for whatever situation that comes up in life."
Lacy Alexander, 17, Shiner University
