The Rev. Glen Dry knew immediately he could relate to Willie and Phil Robertson, of A&E's hit reality show, "Duck Dynasty."
Dry and the father-son reality stars are all outdoorsy types. They've each spent many hours developing the perfect duck call. They're all strong men of the Lord.
So about a year ago, Dry decided to contact the Dynasty duo's booking agents and invite them to be guest speakers at a fundraiser dinner that would raise money for Dry's Experience Excellence ministry and the development of his newest ministry project, Son Valley Ranch.
"The timing was great with how it all came together," Dry said.
"Dinner with the Duckmen," featuring "Dynasty" cast members Willie, Phil and Kay Robertson, will be 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 11 at the Victoria Community Center.
Dry said he's hoping the dinner will raise more than $250,000 to develop Son Valley Ranch, which he hopes to use as an outreach center and training facility for his existing ministry programs such as Man to Man Ministries and Sportsman's Church.
"I love the whole outdoor element to 'Duck Dynasty.' It's just a good fit for who we are and what we do," Dry said. "And then to find out their family has a strong faith was great. They're real, and they like to have fun."
Dry said the Robertsons will give a presentation after the meal, a chicken-fried steak dinner catered by Main Course Catering.
Tickets are $100 for general admission. Dry said there's about 250 tickets remaining.
Live music featuring Clay Crockett and the Shotgun Riders and a live auction are also included with the dinner.
"The inspiration for this event is to raise money for our ministry and use a significant amount of money for Son Valley Ranch. We hope this property can be used to glorify God and reach families for Christ," Dry said.
