F.W. Gross Elementary School Assistant Principal Leandra Hill has been named the new principal for Hopkins Elementary School.

Hill's recommendation was approved by Victoria school district board members at a special meeting Tuesday.

She has served the F.W. Gross community as assistant principal since 2010.

Before that, she worked as a coach and special education teacher at Patti Welder Middle School from 2005 to 2010.

The Stroman High School graduate worked as an adult probation officer from 1991 to 2004.

Hill earned her master's degree from the University of Houston-Victoria after receiving her bachelor's degree from Texas College in Tyler.

Hill will replace Sulema Salinas, who has been the principal at Hopkins for the last five years.

Sulema resigned May 13.

"My plans are to be a stay-at-home mom and teacher for my 3-year-old daughter, spend time with her and build memories," wrote Sulema in an email. "Don't know what the future holds, but I love kids and would love to return once my little one goes to kindergarten."
