Dig Our History Days offers activities for all ages

Dig Our History Days is a free community event scheduled June 14-17 in Victoria's historic downtown.
There are numerous fun, hands-on activities planned, including a public archeology dig project at DeLeon Plaza that the community will have a chance to participate in.
Many activities for all ages and for families will be offered, including atlatl throwing on the grounds of One O'Connor Plaza, guided walking tours of historic downtown Victoria from Market Square to DeLeon Plaza and walking tours of La Villa Victoria; guided historic driving tours of Old Victoria; guided tours of Evergreen Cemetery; guided tours of the Victoria County Courthouse; horse drawn carriage rides at DeLeon Plaza; Bluegrass, oldies and gospel music by the Crossroads String Band at the DeLeon Plaza bandstand; archeology exhibits, lectures and historic films at the Leo J. Welder Center for the Performing Arts; archeology for kids at DeLeon Plaza and children's activities at the Children's Discovery Museum and the Nave Museum; and a children's movie and coloring activity at the Victoria Public Library.
Both the Museum of the Coastal Bend and the Nave Museum will offer free admission during the event. The Museum of the Coastal Bend, on the corner of Ben Jordan and Red River on the Victoria College campus, will have free admission June 14-15. The Nave Museum will offer free admission and tours of the museum June 14-16, In addition to children's activities, the museums will also have docents available to talk about the history of the McCan family and the Nave.
