Search and rescue efforts ended at sunset Wednesday at Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado for Mitchell Dale Stehling, 51, of Goliad, who went missing Sunday afternoon.

The efforts will resume at sunrise Thursday morning, said Betty Lieurance, park public information office.

"They are looking in the areas we think are most likely for detection. They are climbing through all kinds of vegetation and underbrush to cliffs' edges," she said.

Lieurance said the search and rescue unit from the Montezuma County Sheriff's Office has been requested to assist.

Stehling was traveling with his wife and parents when they stopped to visit the park. He went hiking alone about 4 p.m. Sunday.
