Soil and Water Conservation District presents awards

The Victoria Soil and Water Conservation District recently held its annual conservation award banquet at the Spring Creek Place Event Center.
The district honored Alton and Kenneth Hermes of Hermes and Steffeck Fertilizer Service as the conservation business of the year.
McFaddin Ranch was honored as the ranch of the year. Bob McCan, owner of the ranch, received the award.
Chris Buzek received the farmer of the year award.
A conservation essay, poster and coloring contest was held for all schools in the county. Students winning awards were: Sajah Slazar, second in coloring; Carley Dedear, first in coloring; Emma Milam, second in coloring; Carolyn Conway, third in poster contest; Neesa Poncio, first in post contest; Margaret Liu, third in junior essay; Tanner Coleman, second in junior essay; Logan Rivera, first in junior essay; Mary Gower, third in senior essay; Ashley Kolar, second in senior essay; and Marlena Gutierrez, first in senior essay.
Zachary Depine and Madalynn Kainer each received $500 scholarships.
