Dance, cook-off, more benefit Warrior's Weekend

A fundraiser for Warrior's Weekend will be Friday and Saturday featuring live music, dancing and dining, a motorcycle run and a barbecue cook-off.

The action starts at 7 p.m. Friday with Johnny Dee's Rocket 88's providing the dance music at the Victoria Community Center, 2905 E. North St.

Tickets are $15 per person in advance and $20 at the door.

The night also includes a '50s dress up contest and a live auction.

The Victoria Jaycees are also hosting the Smokin' for Heroes barbecue cook-off at the community center.

Competition begins at 8 p.m. Friday with appetizers and margarita contests.

Saturday starts with a bloody mary competition at 9:30 a.m., beans at 10:30 a.m., chicken at noon, ribs at 1:30 p.m. and brisket at 3 p.m.

Registration for the motorcycle run begins at 10 a.m. at Victoria Harley Davidson, 608 N. Moody St.

Entry fee is $25 for riders and $10 for passengers. The entry fee includes a barbecue meal ticket.

Warrior's Weekend is each May, when hundreds of wounded soldiers are treated to a fishing excursion in Port O'Connor, among other activities.
