Jackson County commissioners have issued a burn ban for the entire county for the next two weeks.
Dry conditions have elevated the drought index to 587 and in some areas, it registers as high as 696, said Allan Friedrich, the county's emergency management officer.
Residents of Jackson are encouraged to use extreme caution with materials that may ignite a fire.
Commissioners did not ban fireworks, but Friedrich urges residents to be mindful of firework usage during the Fourth of July holiday.
